Jaye Radisich

(29 March 1976 - 17 March 2012)

It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of Jaye Radisich, a former student of Mount Lawley SHS.

Jaye recently lost her battle with cancer at the young age of 35.

At 24 years of age Jaye was the youngest woman ever to be elected to the Western Australian parliament and was the Member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly for Swan Hills from 2001 to 2008.

As a student at Mount LawleySHS, Jaye actively participated inschool life, and had a long list of achievements through-out her studies.

Some evidence of her school achievements include :

  • Membership to Year 8 Honours Society
  • Membership to Year 10 Honours Society
  • Distinction and Credit in the Australian Mathematics Competition in 1990 and 1991
  • Distinction in German Language Studies in 1989
  • Member of School Chamber Orchestra (1998-1991)
  • Flute section leader in Senior Concert Band
  • City of Stirling Scholarship (1992)
  • Young Achiever (1992)
  • YAA Business Personal Award State Finalist (1992)
  • Certificate of Excellence in Accounting (1992)
  • One of four Year 11 councillors in the Upper SchoolCouncil and Student Council (1992)
  • Student Representative of the School Development Council (1992-1993)
  • Swimming Team (1989-1993)
  • Hockey Team (1991)
  • Year 11 Girls Soccer Team member (1992)
  • School Drama Production 1990

In Year 12, Jaye was appointed as School Prefect, Caltex All Rounder, and Belle of the Ball. Jaye was also a member of the Senior Debating Team and a particant on numerous committees including Student Council, Common Room, Amnesty International.

The editor of the School Magazine was quoted as saying, " .....Jaye Radisich, despite her Year 12 study programme and duties as Prefect and Student Councillor, has directed much of her boundless energy into the magazine. She has written several articles, conducted a poll, generated much enthusiam in the committee, and has even come straight from an exam to help with the thankless task of proofreading."

In the 1993 School Magazine, the Year 12 Poll predicted that Jaye Radisich was the Most likely to succeed.

In her end of year personal comments for the School Magazine, Jaye wrote her ambition was ..."To star in my own TV show (before or after becoming PM).

Jaye's ambition in politics was noted when she wrote within her application for the Queen's Trust, : " I would be keen to gain an insight into the operations in Parliament, as the idea of becoming a parliamentarian myself in the future, to help the community, is appealing. ......among many, who will be part of Australia's future and will help decide which direction it takes. "

Jaye's school testimonal described her as: " ....a bright, intelligent. well organised, diligent and hardworking student who has maintained an excellent standard of dress and attendance. She is a highly motivated, friendly and cooperative student who displays the rare ability to be able to maintain this pleasing disposition even in the face of great adversity. Respected by and popular with staff and students, Jaye was elected as a Student Councillor in 1992 and School Prefect in 1993 where she fulfilled her studies enthusiastically and with great competence. Jaye displayed outstanding leadership qualities and organisational ability and set an exemplary example for other students."
