Mt Lawley Primary Moves To Our Oval

The Woodsome Street soccer oval will, as of the start of next term, be the new home for Mount Lawley Primary School after the fire that destroyed more than 80% of their school last weekend.

The following release from the Department of Education outlines some details.

Further details and updates can be found on the Mt Lawley Primary School website.

New location for Mount Lawley Primary School until school rebuild complete

The Department of Education has confirmed that Mount Lawley Senior High School is the temporary site to house Mount Lawley Primary School from the start of next term (July 24).

North Metropolitan Executive Director Jim Webb said the site meant the entire student body of fire-ravaged Mount Lawley Primary School, from Kindergarten to Year 7 could remain together until their school was re-built on its Second Avenue site by 2014.

Fifteen transportable classrooms, a staff room, an office, storage areas and three toilet blocks including a disabled toilet would be established on the lower oval of the Senior High School, off Woodsome Street in Mount Lawley.

"It is so important to keep these students and community together - and that is what this site will allow," Mr Webb said.

"The location of the lower oval at the Senior High School means that Mount Lawley Primary School will be able to operate as a discrete school with an ideal natural separation between it and the high school buildings," he said

The lower oval is currently being used as a soccer pitch for the secondary students, but the Department is arranging for the soccer pitch to move to another oval on the high school grounds so students' sport can continue.

Mr Webb said that thanks to the City of Stirling, Mount Lawley Primary School students would be able to access playing and recreation space at nearby Hamer Park.

"In addition, the City of Stirling is working closely with the Department to plan and arrange parking for Mount Lawley Primary School parents," he said.

"We have had a fantastic show of support from the community, including very generous offers of space from other public and private schools and private citizens, which is greatly appreciated but the secondary school site proved to be the most suitable option."

Mr Webb said the Department wanted to make the transition for primary students and their parents as seamless as possible.

"We are making every effort to ensure the school is up and running for day one of Term 3, and we will update the community on our progress," Mr Webb said.

Mount Lawley Primary School's website will be updated regularly as developments occur.
